High-field magnetic resonance for the brain, spine, joints, and soft tissue. No radiation.
MRI uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves (no X-rays) to build detailed images of soft tissue. It’s especially good at showing the brain, spine, joints, and organs in fine contrast.
Tumors and lesions, stroke and other brain conditions, herniated discs, ligament and cartilage injuries, and a wide range of soft-tissue problems that other scans can miss.
You lie still on a padded table that moves into the scanner. It’s painless; the machine is loud, so you’ll wear ear protection. Holding still when asked is what keeps the images sharp.
Preparation varies by exam and by patient. Please follow the specific instructions provided by the imaging center where your study is scheduled, and let them know about any conditions (such as diabetes or kidney disease) that affect medications or eating.
